The official name of Mohali is “Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar“, named in honor of Sahibzada Ajit Singh, the eldest son of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, the 10th Sikh Guru. However, the common and widely-used name remains “Mohali”, both in everyday conversation and even in media, government references, and real estate. This dual-naming is similar to other Indian cities like Mumbai (Bombay), Bengaluru (Bangalore), or Gurugram (Gurgaon), where official and popular names exist simultaneously.
